The History of Hope
WHEN AN INDIVIDUAL IS EMPOWERED TO CHANGE, A FAMILY REJOICES IN HOPE. WHEN FAMILIES CHANGE, A CITY IS TRANSFORMED.
In 1997, Rev Samuel Gunawan and Rev Dr Aileen Gunawan were called by God to start a ministry in Parramatta – located at the very centre of Sydney. Driven by a deep passion to see lives transformed by the power of hope, they set their hands to the plough and began laying the foundations of the organisation.
Two years later, on the 8th of August 1999, Hope Mission Centre was officially inaugurated. It all began in their suburban home where young people would arrive at their doorstep for music and youth leadership training. The church began with a congregation of 11 people, gathered each Sunday in a small band hall in Parramatta.
Over time, the organisation has grown to become a multi-faceted, vibrant organisation with over 100 volunteers united in a mission to serve the community. In 2010, Hope Mission Centre expanded beyond Australia and now provides extension services in Singapore and Malaysia.
More recently in 2013, Hope Mission Centre purchased a new building on the most prominent street in Parramatta – Church Street.
To take God’s vision forward, Hope Mission Centre continues to move onward and upward to bring the hope of Christ into the local community and to all corners of the world.
