Hope Mission Centre is hosting an appreciation luncheon for carers of children with chronic kidney disease this Friday as part of National Carers’ Week (17-23 October 2010).
There are 2.6 million unpaid family carers in Australia who make an invaluable contribution to our health system and play a vital role in our community in caring for the ill.
During Carers Week, we have the opportunity to appreciate their tireless efforts, and thank them for the support and strength they offer their family members who suffer from a disability, illness or disorder.
Hope Mission Centre is working together with The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and Enlivening Caregivers, a program that runs recreational activities for family caregivers of children, to provide an afternoon of relaxation for carers from their duties.
Carers will tuck into a luncheon feast, participate in a number of games and activities to unwind, and socialise with other carers to find support and strength from one another.
"These family caregivers give so much and don't expect anything in return," Dr Allison Tong, Hope Mission Centre’s Community Program Manager, says. "They are people who really deserve to be thanked for the many sacrifices they make."
Hope Mission Centre would like to thank Coca-Cola Amatil, QED Skincare, The Cheesecake Shop, Better Homes and Gardens magazine, Your Garden magazine, Sapphire Group and the team of volunteers for contributing to this event and taking the time to care for the silent heroes of our health system – family caregivers.
