By looking beyond the status quo, we hope that all that we do will bring transformation to the individuals, families and communities we help.

the history of hope

When an individual is empowered to change, a family rejoices in hope. When families change, a city is transformed.

In 1997, Rev Samuel Gunawan and Rev Dr Aileen Gunawan received a clear message from God to start a ministry in Parramatta, the very centre of Sydney. Struggling to grasp this significant calling, they sought the Lord every day. There were many daunting questions but God ultimately assured them that He would take care of everything, especially their two sons. Having received a clear mandate from God and driven by an earnest passion to see lives touched and transformed by the power of hope, the pioneers of Hope Mission Centre set their hands to the plough and began laying the foundations of the organisation.

Two years later, on the 8th of August 1999, Hope Mission Centre was officially inaugurated. Beginning in their own home, young people would arrive at their doorstep for music and youth leadership training. A small band hall in Parramatta was rented every Sunday to hold Church services for a congregation of just 12 people. Every week, Rev Samuel Gunawan and Rev Dr Aileen Gunawan would tirelessly preach the Word of God and share the love of Christ with people who were lost and hurting. Every day, they poured their hearts and lives out for people who needed the Lord.

Over time, the organisation has grown to become a multi-faceted, vibrant organisation with a mission and passion to serve the community.

Today, Hope Mission Centre offers numerous programs and services that strengthen, support and assist the community, give purpose to youth and restore family values.

And so Hope Mission Centre progresses day by day, carrying out its God-given mandate to bring hope to the world.
